How it works

The polluted air entering the Centrisep Engine Air Particulate Separator (EAPS) creates vortex currents under the action of a vortex generator. The particles in the air stream are thrown onto the sidewall of the pipe under the action of centrifugal force and blown off and removed by a small amount of intake air. Clean air is discharged directly into the engine through the center of the vortex generator, while polluted air is continuously removed by the cleaning system.

In order to make the air filter meet the needs of high flow rate and low pressure loss, multiple sets of vortex tubes are installed in parallel to form a Centrisep EAPS assembly. During the design process, consideration must be given to minimizing the overall pressure loss and the flow field gradient between the individual vortex tubes. The internal cleaning area was also carefully designed to ensure that particles from each tube were removed efficiently. The combination of various factors will ensure the optimal performance of the entire plant. After more than 30 years of continuous development and updating, EAPS can provide users with the most optimized design solution for each application.

●In order to remove the separated contaminated particles, it is necessary to introduce a cleaning airflow. Depending on the pressure situation, several different cleaning methods can be considered.

●For situations where the system pressure is higher than the ambient pressure, such as the bleed air of a helicopter engine, the air flow can be swept through only one orifice restrictor. For industrial EAPS air filtration systems, a sand exhaust fan is required.

●The cleaning fan can be driven by electric, hydraulic, mechanical or pneumatic mode. The sand discharge pipe can be powered by any compressed air or gas.
